I Don't Owe You- Music Video Fund

Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Alice(D). I am a singer/ songwriter from London. I have been singing & writing songs since the age of 11, as music has always been my passion.
Since taking music seriously just over 3 years ago, my style has progressed through the years. Originally writing & featuring on dance/house tracks, my latest EP (due out this year) has adopted a more atmospheric RnB tone, covering dark subject matters that I believe showcase my lyrical ability.

One of the tracks on this EP is called 'I Don't Owe You.' This song tells the story of a broken down relationship, suspicions of infidelity, & the constant backwards & forwards of a toxic partnership.
However, the woman remains strong & gains back control, leaving the man with the simple statement: 'I Don't Owe You.'

I have chosen to make a music video for this track as I created this song & the music from scratch in the studio with the producer Eddie Jenkins. I feel it is very fitting to the sound I want to create from now on & believe it has a powerful message to tell.
My friends & I could create something visually amazing.

The Concept:

I Don’t Owe You. The narrative of this film will hang around these words, in its liberation, ownership, independence and space. Let’s leave the break-up and the drama behind, embracing individuality and the tangible instead. Our voice will recount past conflicts but in a place which confirms she is already moving on.

And this place is the coastal beach town Aldeburgh. This is the perfect location to capture the cool, assured & composed image we want the film to project. People let go on the beach. It marks an intermission from our busy schedules, a period when our main focus is on the self, relaxation & healing. It’s a place where we undress physically but also emotionally. We won’t restrict ourselves to the beach; there are other coastal, open spaces we can use to create a diverse and natural scene.

The main influences have been archival beach or holiday footage from the late 60s and early 70s. We find some really tender, charming actions and original scenarios in these clips which we can try to recreate. As in Solange’s videos, subtle & meticulous choreography will play a big part along with the art direction – but we think we can take this inspiration somewhere new, incorporating some more natural moments like we see in these clips along with some more abstract close ups of the body and of the environment.

Given the amazing locations which Nell has sourced, we think we can also subtly play with the girls’ new-found fondness for nature, and open spaces – a return to the playing field as it were, but also the sense that the environment is helping them to heal and move on. Let’s keep the scenes really clean, but occasionally incorporate props, like an assemblage of large flowers or leaves, or a curvaceous bottle of water or an oar with peeling paint. And we’ll think carefully about the compositions of our characters’ bodies and how they sit physically in the landscape.

The Team:

As part of this, Lottie organises and delivers press, artwork and video shoots for PMR artists. She plays great attention to detail and organises the creation of all campaign assets, down to social teasers.

We would love to be able to raise £1,250 by 3rd July 2017 (filming takes place the weekend of the 7th/8th) to make this project come to life.

The funds would be used for:

Hair
Make Up
Lights / Reflectors
Camera Equipment
Styling / Borrowing clothes from upcoming designers
Location: Aldeburgh, UK - Expenses (Petrol / Food / Drink)
Extras

Having your support would be incredible as music & the arts is my passion & benefits us all. Getting yourself noticed within the music industry is tough, especially without management/ funding.
Creating a beautiful & unique debut music video, could be that extra step in the right direction for myself as an artist. Having such a fantastic & skilled team on board will also make all the difference, & I'm sure we will produce a brilliant end result.

Even the smallest of donations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Alice + all the team! x
