Ice Cream for The Soul

Please help me !!. I am a Hospice Nurse. One Saturday morning like so many others I went to a hospital to meet  a  man who on this same Saturday had  he been given the news that he had less tha six months to live.He shared how he was pretty much alone. He did not want to what he called burdening his family.to care for him (actuallyHe had lived out what is called the American Dream. He  served in the miltary and reportedly was a very good man.Four months earlier little did he know he know that a simple symptom would change his desired course for his life.  After signing consents he was transferred to nursing home of his choice (remaining in a hospital once it is determined there is no more treatment  is typically not a option).The following Saturday I was assigned to visit him at the nursing home. He shared with me how he knew he would never return hom.I immediately noticed that he was now experiencing a lot of pain and now is unable to walk. This very accomplished ,witty man now appeared frailer than he did one week ago.  As I was concluding my Nursing assessment I asked if there was anything else I could do for him. I was aware that he had been recieving pain medication every two hours and it was controlling the pain. He was clean and the diaper he was now wearing was dry.  The water pitcher by his bed was full so as I was preparing to leave he stated " All i've wanted since I was in the hospital was some Ice Cream". He stated not that stuff in that small styrofoam cup but some real ice cream, maybe with some chocolate syrup. He shared how He loved ice cream.I also love ice cream so all I could think of is as a child how something so simple could bring so much joy.This was his guilty pleasure. As I walked to the Nursing station and thought about this man who raised a son, successful in his buisness, and overall very kind man only wanted to some ice cream. I learned that the kitchen was closed and by the way they only had that styrofoam cup stuff.This moment after twenty years of nursing I stood there wishing I could add Ice Cream to his standing orders. He later died And I don't know what happened. If at all possible could you be a Nurse for a day. So  fund a nursing home for a day with ice cream and you.Reach out to a nursing home in your area and provide a ice cream social for one day. I actually sent a letter to the Ellen show to launch a ice cream truck to provide ice cream to nursing homes. I know this is far fetched but could you imagine a Nursing home really like a home. Noone ever expects to live in a nursing home. Think about it. One day this could be you. "Ice Cream for the Soul". You
