Building a Bridge/Road for Village
Donation protected
I'm from a village in Northern Pakistan about 5 hours from Gilgit called Nasirabad Immit, which is 6000 ft above sea level on a mountain, raised from the rest of Immit. Also, a small river separates my village from the next village. The next village is where the hospital is, where the market is, where the main road is, where the school is--essentially the river serves as a barrier that must be crossed by foot to reach these things. But it's not that easy. The river has a strong force, is full of rocks, and is ice cold, since it melts directly from the snow on the mountains above. On average, it's about 5-7 feet wide. There have been multiple previous attempts at weak makeshift bridges, but those have been carried away by the force of the river during peak flow. As you can imagine, this has been a point of struggle for my fellow villagers for many years (and me personally when I lived there as a child).
Also, our village does not have a safe road to make it down to the river itself, which is especially dangerous for the many kids who go to school in the next village daily by foot. The current path is narrow and slippery and requires careful footing, even more so in the dark of night. My brother has begun work on a road but is having financial difficulty in making further progress (see pic below).
Thus, as a global citizen, I humbly ask for small donations to fund the building of a strong bridge and a road to help my villagers have a better quality of life. Also, it would be great if you could share/forward this link. Thank you! I appreciate it and can't wait to hear of the joy and ease of life this gift will bring to the people of my village.
UPDATE (1/20/18): the villagers have consulted an engineer about the cost of the bridge. The bridge alone will cost approximately $7,000 (excludes road's cost). So, we have updated the goal to $5,000 (some funds can hopefully be collected in Pakistan, too). Currently, there are around 20 people working on the road. With the updated donation goal, we really need your help! Please share and donate! We really appreciate all the support we have received so far.
