Sometimes, life deals you a bad hand. This is what happened to Mike McCollin. Here is his story…
Mike (46 yrs old) and his wife Rhobin have lived in Banff, Alberta, for over 20 years. They started their family here and are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Jaidyn (12) and Samarah (8).
Mike lived a simple life and worked hard to take care of his family. He worked at a few places in town, but most recently was the Food and Beverage Manager at Norquay.
Everything came crashing down suddenly in January of 2014 when he had a stroke, affecting his right side and his cognitive processing. Unfortunately, he has not been able to return to work since and has been on disability.
The year of 2017 he was making some progress and even got his driver’s license back. What an accomplishment! Unfortunately, in November of that year, he suffered a second stroke, which affected his short term memory and his left side. He was then diagnosed with Cognitive Dementia and was no longer able to live at home. Since then, he has been admitted into various hospitals due to dementia and ongoing health concerns.
After much research, Mike won’t be accepted in Banff at the Seniors homes as he doesn’t meet the requirements for age. He is currently waiting for assisted living placement in Calgary.
Please help Mike and his family during this tough time. Mike won’t be getting better and we want to do everything we can as a community and help this wonderful family. Based on the monthly cost of assisted living ($2,500.00), anything we can do to help will mean the world to them. We also would like to help them have somewhat of a normal life for the girls so they can continue camping and fishing, and doing activities during the school year.
Let’s try to make life just a little bit easier for them. Please help…

Please note that there will be a fundraiser on September 12 at Wild Bills. More details will be posted as we have them; Please save the date and join us!
