ISF PROGRAMS
WORK-STUDY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Support local and international students in their academic, employment and self-employment endeavors. Help them overcome socio-economic barriers to success and self-fulfilment.
We facilitate access to quality education for all families regardless of financial means.
Our mission is to remove financial barriers to academic freedom.
We accomplish this through a combination of innovative fundraising, financing and community development strategies.
Choosing the type of education your child receives, is regarded as a human right by the United Nations.
Affording quality education in accordance with your family values, beliefs and principles can be a challenge. ISF was founded in 2004 to address this issue.
ISF facilitates start-ups, fundraising, financing and expansion strategies with private schools and independent education projects on three continents.
Our ISF Africa Capital Project is an economic empowerment strategy designed to accelerate self-reliance and independence in the communities surrounding our overseas education projects.
We provide expert consulting services on fundraising and training for specialist teams on member projects.
ISF has access to more than 100 phone fundraisers across Canada and in the UK through third party service providers. Professional fundraising teams conduct outreach campaigns to corporate and community stakeholders for our members.
We also provide business planning services, start-up consulting services specific to the education industry, and we connect our stakeholders with venture capital and other sources of financing for their projects. Our business endeavors include, but are not limited to, private schools and related education ventures.
Our overseas partners use educational settings as the central focus of community participation, giving real meaning to the saying "it takes a village to raise a child." We have accordingly become involved in the development of whole villages surrounding our Sister Schools partner projects. This offers a unique social investment opportunity for entrepreneurs and community partners alike.
ISF is actively involved in education and community business development strategies in emerging economies, with projects as far afield as Bangladesh and the African Union.

ISF Legal Defense
We address issues surrounding academic freedom wherever they may arise.
ISF Legal Defense also provides access to counsel on pro bono or discounted basis to any member who encounters injustice in the course of their education mission.
ISF Africa Capital Project
Our outreach to Canadian private and independent schools currently features the opportunity to establish a fundraising partnership with a sister school in Africa. The annual ISF Association membership fee of $1000 includes a match with an overseas sister school project of the member's choice.
Sister schools support each other by providing crowd funding platform rewards and joint fundraising opportunities. Schools invest the funds raised where they are in highest demand.
Custom designed fundraising campaigns are created for each project, and implemented by our strategic fundraising partners.

MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to improve the overall quality of schools everywhere, by promoting private and independent schools who create fair competition for the public system.
Independent Schooling Fund is a capital pool under construction. Our fundraising mission is continuous, subject to stakeholder demand.
The purpose of the Fund is to remove financial access barriers from educational settings offering quality alternatives.
ISF creates fair competition for public school systems by empowering the private education sector.
ISF consists of three distinct capital funds.
1. Work-Study Scholarship Fund
The scholarship fund builds industry-wide capacity to accommodate students who could not otherwise afford the fees to attend a private or independent school of their choice.
2. Legal Defense Fund
The legal defense fund raises retainers for specialist legal counsel whose help is enlisted in the mission to defend academic freedom wherever it may be at risk.
ISFLDA is exploring legal remedies for violations of taxpayers' rights and infringements on religious freedom in public education. The so-called new Ontario curriculum is a concern for many ISF stakeholders, notably Muslim and Christian families.
3. Africa Capital Project
ISF Africa Capital Project builds capacity to form fundraising and economic development partnerships with education projects and stakeholder communities in the African Union.
BACKGROUND
"Tall poppies" is a term used by unionized educators who disapprove of excellence in education, for fear that the mediocrity of the public system would be highlighted if certain schools and individual students excel. ISF's mission is to nurture the tallest of the tall poppies, thereby creating a level playing field for schools who do not have the benefit of tax dollars for their capital base.
ISF Legal Defense fights for the rights of taxpayers with regard to public education, for academic freedom and for the integrity of the public trust.
ISF Legal Defense Association counsel provides pro bono services in cases of importance to the rights of those who support the system through their tax dollars. In some cases we raise funds for the retainers of specialist counsel associated with our membership.
ISF Africa Capital Project is an ongoing mission in which we form Association partnerships with sister schools and independent educators overseas.
Independent Schooling Fund is building an international industry association of private and independent schools, educators and students. Our head office is in Toronto, Canada.
We provide specialized consulting services and economic assistance to our members.
ISF offers two levels of Association Membership.
1. ISF Legal Defense Association (ISFLDA) Membership
- Open to members based in Canada and the United States.
- Eligible for membership: private schools, independent (non-publicly funded) education programs, home schoolers and families.
ISFLDA members receive unlimited legal advice on any issue of concern to the member. ISF Legal Defense Association counsel are available across Canada and the United States.
ISFLDA raises funds for retainers in cases where ISF Legal Defense Association counsel is needed to represent a member's interests in civil litigation or other Court action.
Document reviews and telephone consultations by ISF Legal Defense Association counsel are free of charge to members.
Membership is open in principle to anyone, but not all membership applications are accepted. This is because ISFLDA accepts only as many new members as it has the capacity to serve at any given time. ISF prioritizes its memberships according to its own criteria. Economic disadvantage is a criterion, but there are other factors as well.
Students need not necessarily fall in the category "poorest of the poor" to encounter systemic discrimination or other troublesome issues in the public education system. Students with or without actual learning disabilities who encounter "labels" in the public system are among the highest priority applicants.
"Labels" such as ADD, ADHD, LD, ASD etc. often indicate systemic teaching deficits typically found in unionized public systems, rather than actual learning disabilities. ISF provides advocacy for students who encounter the "labeling system" at school. We support label-free education, academic integrity and freedom of thought, association and expression at all levels of education.
Psycho-educational "labels" signify systemic limitations. ISF opposes limitations on intellectual freedom. We support and defend the freedom of individual students to pursue the studies of their choice regardless of socio-economic or other perceived barriers.
The ISF resource base also includes for-profit education consulting services (available free of charge to members) to facilitate start-ups, self-employment strategies and capacity building for established independent business related, either obliquely or directly, to education as a life-long mission.
ISFLDA Membership is $2000 US per annum for private schools and $500 per year for families.
2. ISF Association Membership
ISF Association is international and freely accessible to all students and educators across geographical, cultural, religious and economic divides.
All people of faith (Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Christian etc.) and also people of no particular faith are equally welcome to sign up.

- Families
