Inez Has Cancer
Inez has stage 3 anal cancer. Or, as we like to call it, #assholecancer. It was diagnosed on May 31 after a year of pain, which was diagnosed 3 times as hemmoroids.
Eventually the pain became extremely difficult and she was admitted to the hospital on Friday to help with pain management. The good news is that Halifax has an excellent pain management team and she is doing much better. The pain never really goes away but it is at a manageable level.
Yesterday she started very intensive chemoradiation treatment. UGH! It’s a gruelling schedule - chemo treatments will be given in two cycles intravenously and each cycle lasts 96hrs. The first cycle started yesterday and the second starts first day of week 4. Radiation treatments is Monday to Friday for 30/40 mins per day for 30 days. There will be an 8-12 weeks healing period after treatment.
Inez hasn’t been able to work for the past year except for a few short periods when the pain was minimal. And she will not be able to work for the next 4-6 months. She and her family really need help to get through this - financially and emotionally. And there are numerous ways that you can help.
Financially they need help paying day to day bills since Inez has not been able to work for a year. As well, they have extra bills related to her cancer and treatment such as paying for her partner Adrian to stay and eat at the lodge while Inez is going through treatment. (Inez stays there for free) This has been strongly recommended by the social worker who is part of her medical team so they do not have to make the 40 minute (each way) trip to and from their home in Windsor. Making that trip daily would have a negative impact on Inez health and ability to recover from treatment and the cancer. Note: She is in the hospital now but once the treatment is underway and her pain is well managed she will be receiving treatment as an outpatient which is why there is a need for Halifax housing near the hospital.
If you are in a position to help financially that would make a huge difference. A contribution of any amount is helpful - $5 or $500 - it all adds up. You can make a one time contribution now or you can make a monthly contribution. We will be keeping this campaign going until Inez is fully recovered.
All funds will be managed by her aunt Terry Rudderham at Inez's discretion and in consultation with her partner Adrian.
Make a one time financial contribution - This is the most helpful thing you can do. Any amount is helpful and appreciated.
Make a monthly contribution - Knowing that there will be a certain amount of money coming in monthly would be a huge help - financially and emotionally. If you can contribute monthly please leave a comment letting us know the amount or send an email.
Send a card - it would mean so much to Inez to hear from friends and family. Cards can be sent to:
