Into the Abyss Record Store Benefit

Into the Abyss is a small, independent record store that also sells vintage clothing, located at 119 Locke St S, Unit A in Hamilton. It is owned by Brad Germain (who is also a well known fixture in the Hamilton music scene through his presence in bands both past and present such as The Marble Index, The Dinner Belles, and Coszmos Quartette), and his wife Jenni.
A couple of years ago, they saw a need for an indie record shop on Locke Street and they set about making it happen! Congratulations to Into the Abyss for recently celebrating their very FIRST Anniversary! However, due to the disruptive construction on Locke Street - and also due to the fact that Jenni just gave birth to the couple's first child! - there's a chance that they might not celebrate a second year in business. That's where we all come in!
Mark Furukawa (Dr. Disc) recently read a Facebook post from Into the Abyss which had a pic showing the upheaval the construction is causing on Locke Street, and decided to help out. Hamilton is known for its community spirit and support of its own. So he thought, if our musical artists regularly work together to help each other and to raise money for worthwhile causes, why can't record stores do something similar?
Mark reached out to another local record store owner, Scott Bell, from Revolution Records (166 Ottawa St N) as well as Brodie Schwendiman, owner of the iconic Hamilton music venue, The Casbah (306 King St W), and Sean Palmerston (Hellbound.ca) to try and put something together. From this collaboration came a live music fundraiser called 'OUT of the Abyss' which takes place on Saturday, June 8 at The Casbah, the aim of which is to raise funds for Into the Abyss.

This Go Fund Me campaign is part of that idea, and has been created for those who cannot attend the 'OUT of the Abyss' live fundraiser, but want to contribute anyway. Or even for those who can attend, but wish to donate a little bit more!
100% of all funds raised will go towards helping Brad and Jenni and Into the Abyss in the following ways:
• paying the rent
• subsidizing loss of income due to the disruptive construction (scheduled to continue through November!)
• wages for staff that are filling in while Brad and Jenni are off doing Mommy and Daddy things
• and a few diapers no doubt!
Please make sure to contribute what you can to help keep one of Hamilton's most diverse and wonderful indie record stores in our community alive and kicking!
