Suzy's Debut Album "Into the Flame"

Dear Friends,
Most of you are aware of my love of music, the arts and my passion for sharing it with as many people as I can. Many of you may not know that I have taken this passion to the next level and established a non profit organization called Breathing Access 501(c)3 to bring arts, yoga and wellness to underserved groups like Petree Elementary in East Winston Salem where we have led a successful program for the last three years bringing yoga and music to students who live with low income families.
We expanded the program this year to include Cook Elementary which has the highest illiteracy rate in the state of North Carolina for the past 6 years consecutively. The staff at Cook is so excited to have us come provide yoga and music to students to help them manage stress and have tools to help them release trauma from difficult home lives so they can focus on scholastics.
I am inspired to bring these passions together in the following way. I am creating my first ever solo album titled “Into the Flame” - launching September 2017. It will feature my original songs, vocals as well as violin. The style will be a unique fusion of folk, pop as well as my Brazilian musical heritage.
The total cost of this project including hiring a music director, musicians, studio time, mixing, mastering and printing the album as well as launching and promoting the CD is $12,000.
I am so honored to have received a grant from the Winston Salem Arts Council’s Duke Regional Artist Grant in the amount of $3,000. I am putting in $2,000 of my own private money and have already raised $3,250 from private donors. This leaves me with a gap funding of $3,750 that I am hoping to raise through friends and supporters like you.
I consider music a source of healing for myself personally and believe in the transformational power of music and the arts for entire communities. For this reason, I am donating 20% of all album sales back in to support the important work of Breathing Access 501(c)3. I will also donate several free CD’s to friends and supporters with low incomes. In addition, 10% of all the funds that I raise through this campaign, will go straight to supporting our program at Petree Elementary School.
We are seeing awesome results with our programs. Third grade Students and their Teachers who were surveyed before and after the program stated that they saw a positive increase in student’s self image, self esteem, body awareness, health and mental focus which they attributed to our program. Furthermore, teachers believed these changes would have a positive impact on student’s scholastic performance and test taking abilities.
I hope you will consider contributing to me as an artist and also to this amazing program. A friend recently asked me what my motivation was for doing this album now. I told him that when I visited my Grandfather in Brazil this summer, he asked me how my music was going and whether he could have my CD. This is my response. I want to send him an album while I still can. I also want to contribute to a better world and community as much as I can for as long as I can. This is an opportunity for me to do both and for you to be a part of it! Please join me. I appreciate your support!
Sincerely,
Suzy McCalley
