New Wave Drama is a Miami- based theatre company founded by Miami Natives.
Our Mission:
We aim to highlight important works of theatre, both old and new, to the Miami community. Our goal is to cultivate an influential and culturally significant theatre space that is accessible to all within our community.
What do we stand for?
Throughout history, we have seen the impact the arts can have on communities. New Wave drama aims to focus on making theatre content that is culturally relevant to the people of Miami by highlighting a variety of our diversity in cultures, and by telling the stories of people of color. Miami is a community that is influenced by our diverse city we want our voices to be heard and for theatre artists from this city to have a place to express themselves.
Why this show?
This thought-provoking yet comedic play holds a special place in our Founders' hearts. Is it a written seriocomic story of love and betrayal- that puts a diverse story under a microscope for all to see.
There's something in this show for everyone- comedy in English and Spanish, passion, and there are multiple betrayals. Stephen Adly Gurgis never fails to write stories that make you crack up and maybe even cry.
What will we use the money for?
We will use the money to pay for the venue and performance rights for the show. Most importantly, our funds will pay artists involved in this production. This includes not only the director and actors but also production assistants. It takes a village to put on a show and everyone deserves to be paid for their efforts to make it possible.
Location of our first production
Our goal is to have our production running for 3 days in the summer at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center Blacinted in Cutler Bay.
Why New Wave Drama?
Theatre in Miami has become more and more inaccessible as time passes- perhaps it has been inaccessible since the beginning. We intend to make sure that this art is accessible to all the people in our city by keeping our ticket prices low and staying true to our mission.
We want to produce significant work that mirrors the communities we came from while bringing our BIPOC voices to the forefront. Being a theatre company that focuses on the people at the heart of this city- those diverse voices and dreamers- we hope to make a difference and add to the rich theatrical culture of the city we love.
