Hi, everyone!
My name is Christian (CJ) Acevedo and I am a first-year student at Miami Dade College. I am one of the first in my family to attend college and through my studies, I plan on giving back to not only my family who has made a plethora of sacrifices in order for me to be where I am today, but also to the communities that have helped me make it this far.
I was recently accepted into a study abroad program that will allow me to travel to several cities, villages, and regions in Iceland including Reykjavik, Borgarfjörður, Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Reykjanes Peninsula, and Snæfellsnes Peninsula during the summer of 2018. Through this program, I will be able to compare and contrast the effects of climate change in the Nordic climate of Iceland with the tropical climate of Miami and explore alternative energy sources. This trip will benefit me to a great extent, relating to my minor in sustainability. For those of you who know me, you should know that this is something that I am incredibly passionate about.
However, this trip will not be funded by my college, coming completely out of pocket. Although I am currently working three different jobs, I also have tuition, bills and living expenses to pay for. I have applied for several scholarships already, but I will not be notified until it is too late. This is why I am turning to you— my family members, friends, and communities who have supported my journey and growth for so many years. With your continued support and contribution, whatever it may be, I will be able to pay for my expensive visas, immunizations, passport, tuition, my books and supplies and more.
This is a huge opportunity for me and I am not sure when I will ever have a chance like this again. Please donate whatever you can. Every penny counts!
