Safer sleep for Jack
Donation protected
Jack is a fantastic little boy with such a cheeky but incredibly lovable character. He has no fear, alongside his other niggles he needs a fair amount of supervision to keep him safe. As you may or may not know, Jack has had issues with his development since birth which affects everything from his walking to the things he can eat and the way he eats, although these are not severe lots of little niggles can be exhausting.
His sleeping arrangements are his latest challenge and although OT can arrange for a specialist bed for him we don't feel this is the best solution and have sourced our own alternative. Jack's night time habits are a cause of concern for us, during a recent nights stay in the children's ward it took two of us (nurse and mummy) to restrain Jack to prevent him from harm. These spells have been happening for many months now, but as Jack is getting bigger and stronger it is hard to stop him from hurting himself against the bars/floor or walls etc when he is very angry. Jack also regularly bangs his head in normal sleep hard enough for us to hear downstairs and sometimes hard enough to bruise.
Jack is a bit of a thrill seeker, thanks to his Feldenkrais sessions for his movement he is quite a good little climber, this is fantastic to see but also leaves Jack quite vulnerable to falls which happen quite often, being able to create a safe space in his bedroom where we can help minimise that risk would be great.
The NHS have been fantastic in supplying equipment for Jack, what we feel best meets Jack's needs probably won't be fully funded by the NHS so we would like to try to fundraise towards this.
The purpose of this fund is to enable us to be in a position to give Jack as near to a normal lifestyle as possible starting with the need for a specialist bed and other equipment for his bedroom.
The bed we are looking at is a safety sleeper, this is a portable special needs bed a bit like a tent frame with soft mesh sides. This takes a full size single mattress that would also enable one of us to be able to snuggle down with Jack should he need reassurance. The bed is portable and folds down into a travel case which would mean we would be able to stay away with a known safe environment for us and Jack. This bed costs nearly £3500.
Any donation no matter how small would be such a great help and would make a real difference to Jack.
