Jackie Clarke Memorial Fund

In 1995, 8-year-old Jackie Clarke was playing with friends in a wooded area on the north side of Fredericton (N.B.) when she was lured by 35-year-old Murray Lyons, a complete stranger, to take a ride on his ATV.  Within a very short time, Jackie was driven miles into the middle of the woods, sexually assaulted and murdered by Lyons and left buried where no one would find her, or so he thought.

This crime rocked the small community of Fredericton and has left deep and lasting impressions on all involved; her parents, friends, emergency responders, search and rescue workers, 911 operators, teachers the detectives working the case and the list goes on.

Lyons was convicted of 1st degree murder and like many child molesters, was murdered in prison a few years later.

Fast forward 23 years later, the case now long forgotten by the community,  when the CBC series “The Detectives ” comes across the case and decides to make it part of season II to be aired in the fall of 2018.  After researching the show and discovering the exceptional quality, accuracy and respect given to the cases covered, as one of the lead detectives, I decided to participate and tell my story.

The producers paid me a consulting fee which I wanted to put towards Jackie’s memory.  After consulting with Jackie’s parents, it was decided the best and most appropriate use of any funds raised would first go towards the library at McAdam Av. Elementary school where Jackie and her friends attended.

Please help me honor Jackie’s memory, challenge issued.

Please note that donations can also be made at any branch of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) to the "Jackie Clarke Memorial Fund".
