Jacob s medical expenses

During a routine eye exam we discovered that Jacob was not able to see the eye chart from his right eye and upon further examination the doctor discovered that he had an eye disease known as keriticones. This is a disease in which the layers on the cornea begin to deteriorate and allows the eye to become cone shape and causes the the vision to become blurry and distorted. We were immediately referred to eye specialists at the University of Iowa and they recommended we do a procedure called Corneal Cross Linking to slow down or hopefully stop the deterioration. He will then need specialized contact lenses to help him see properly. We hope this will help him regain normal vision. Unfortunately this procedure is not covered by insurance and costs 4600.00 per eye. We need to have both eyes done but can only be done one at a time and needs a one month recovery period at the least. When this is completed he needs the special contacts which is $2500.00. We also have travel expenses to and from the clinic as it is a three hour drive round trip which means days off of work and school. Jacob is very involved in school as he runs in cross country and track and is in basketball. He does show choir, choir, student senate, and has a highGPA. He is also a Eucharistic minister for his parish and is involved in community theater. He is 16 years old and a sophomore in high school. We are hoping for great results as the doctor said he is a good candidate for this procedure.
