With your generous donations through our Go Fund Me page along with our community fund raising campaign the BELLIVEAU COVE DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (BCDC) has been able to raise the required $65 000 and has now purchased the magnificent vessel - STELLA MARIS. She is a 36' replica of a 17th c. Dutch Royal Class vessel, built by the late Jean Belliveau of Belliveau Cove, Nova Scotia. This boat was appraised back in 2018 and valued at $288,000, also the hand-carved artwork alone was appraised at a value of $71,000. While Jean could not realize his dream of sailing this vessel, he spoke often of his desire to share it with the community.

The acquisition of the STELLA MARIS is part of a larger vision of the BCDC. Working in partnership with the Municipality of Clare, the vessel will be a showcased in a new upcoming on-site tourism experience centre at the Joseph and Marie Dugas Municipal Park in Belliveau Cove, Nova Scotia.

We are now entering our second phase of our project which requires us to raise funds towards preserving this vessel and help cover the costs such as the storage, insurance fees and the future relocation of the vessel from its storage location to its new building, Once in its new building, the vessel will be set up for display on a support cradle, carry out minor repairs, touch up painting, finish the captain’s cabin, finish and install the mast, bow sprit, figures head, all wood sculptures, acquire and install sails and rigging, install display lighting.
