Jeff Farley's Recovery Fund

Jeff starting taking weekly shots for his diabetes in October of 2018.  He started experiencing severe stomach pains.  The doctor switched him to a different kind, but was still having the pains.  Jeff decided to get into a gastroenterologist to see if there was something wrong with his stomach.  The doctor scoped his esophagus and stomach.  He didn't see anything in his stomach. He had a small spot on his esophagus that the doctor thought was nothing, but biopsied anyway just to be safe.  The spot turned out to be cancer.  He was referred to another doctor in Kansas City that might be able to laser it off.  That doctor tried, but was not able to remove it all.  June 28th he had a Ivor Lewis Esophagectomy.  The doctor removed 2/3 of his esophagus and 1/3 of his stomach.  He then stretched the stomach up to reconnect to the remaining esophagus.  Surgery went as planned.  He was expected to leave the hospital after 10 days.  Jeff has had some set backs.  He was in the hospital for 9 days when he aspirated fluid into his lungs.  He was taken to the ICU and put on a ventilator.  He developed pneumonia (infection in his lungs).  He was on the ventilator for 7 days before coming off.  Jeff was off the ventilator for two days and then was vomiting uncontrollably which caused him to aspirate again.  They placed him back on the ventilator for at least another couple of days to let this lungs rest.  He will be in the ICU for several more days before he can return to the step down unit to work on his recovery.  Jeff has not been to work for months before this because of his stomach pain and won't be able to return to work for 2-4 months after he is out of the hospital.  They have medical expenses growing daily as well as monthly bills that need to be paid.  The hope is to raise some money for those so that they can focus on Jeff's recovery and not worry about money.
