PROJECT INSPIRATION
I have decided to work with the Los Angeles LGBT Center to organize this donation drive for homeless youth who use their services.
The Los Angeles LGBT Center is a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12-24. Services include: physical and mental health services, social services and housing, educational services, job-training and educational/ vocational services.
DID YOU KNOW?
-On any night in Los Angeles, there are 6,000 homeless youth on the streets?
-40% of them are LGBTQ+ identified
-Most have run away or been cast out of their communities simply because of who they are.
-They face the struggles of living on the street and the difficulties of learning about who they are in a society that has not come to fully accept them.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
-We are canvasing our local community to collect unwanted clothing to donate to a very worthy cause. We are providing bags in our local neighborhood to make the collection simple; The bag is provided for residents to fill with any discarded ADULT clothing items or unused hygiene items.
-We have also created this page for cash donations to be spent on clothing and hygiene essentials that are most needed. We will be purchasing specific items such as:
- Unused Clothing Items such as T-shirts, pants, and shoes.
- Unused Hygiene Items such as underwear, socks, brushes, combs, wet wipes, and toothbrushes.
100% of monetary donations will go towards the purchase of additional hygiene and clothing items.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
I believe this project is important to the community, and very timely in light of current changes both in society’s increasing acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community and the Boy Scouts’ new policy of tolerance and progressive transition into an organization open to all youth.
I believe this project will go a long way to bridge the gap between these two communities that existed due to past policies. Most important, however, is that this project will provide desperately needed resources to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
The Center provides them safety and resources in the form of shelter, counseling, and the basic necessities of life. But the center cannot help all of the youth who need its services without the generous support of the community.
