Jerdon Disney Dream

My sister-in-law is a tough lady! She and my brother, Todd, and their two girls, Kysa (5) and Matea (3), have been through quite the journey over the last three years.
In January 2014, just a few months after the birth of Matea, Laina was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer while living in the Detroit area. She had an aggressive and successful treatment, undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. With her strong faith along with very talented and incredible doctors, she was considered “cancer-free” by July of 2014!
Looking at the statistics, based on the results and course of treatment, there was only about a 15% chance of recurrence, a chance so slim that cancer quickly slipped into seemingly irrelevant history.
With a strong desire to be closer to Laina’s family, the Jerdons relocated from Michigan to Wisconsin in 2015 and they began happily establishing themselves in the Meadowbrook and Lake Country community. On-going check-ups and images continued to give confidence that the cancer journey was over.
However, in December of 2016 an intermittent headache and waves of nausea took Laina into the Urgent Care the Saturday the week before Christmas. The basic symptoms were assessed by the medical team (based on her medical history), who ran a CT scan of her brain… and discovered four to five tumors large enough to cause wonder that she was still walking and talking. Subsequent scans showed at least two more tumors in her lungs.
Laina just finished her first round of radiation and will begin ongoing chemo starting the second week of January. Statistical data is not necessarily applicable because of Laina’s young age, but many in her condition will not outlive a year.
Within the course of less than one day, their world was flipped upside down.
It has been a long-time dream of Laina’s to take their girls to Disney World. In just a couple trips, Disney’s magic has made some of her most wonderful memories and she’s been longing to show it to the girls while they are still young. Laina had set a goal to save for a trip sometime in 2018, but with the news, it is one of her dearest wishes to take their girls as soon as possible this year.
We invite you to help make her dream come true by supporting “The Jerdon Disney Dream”!
(Note: They may eventually have additional other financial needs that come up (medical, home, etc), for which I will post a separate GoFundMe campaign.)
Thank you for all your love, care, prayer and support for Laina and Todd’s family as they go through this journey! It helps more than you could ever imagine. Blessings.
