Veteran fighting cancer, keep home

Donation protected

Jerry,  a Navy veteran and hardworking electrician, was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer back March of this year.  He's been receiving chemotherapy in Cedar Rapids. However, he is just 2 weeks away from beginning the next phase of treatment, a bone marrow transplant.  In other words, is it go time and the family needs this financial support as soon as possible.

He will be admitted into University of Iowa Hospital on September 19.  This phase of treatment will keep Jerry in the hospital for at least one month or longer. Then,  if everything goes smoothly, isolation at home for possibly many months.

The family has experienced a serious reduction of income, and it will drop again for several months. Jerry and Denise's 3 adult children are still at home.  They help with what they can, but they, too, have diagnosed health issues and their youngest just started college.

Denise is struggling with a few chronic health issues and Denise has little to no paid time off at this time due to doctor appointments for Jerry and herself.

The family has been proactive in working out details with their mortgage company and has also been working with Veterans Administration.  The funds from this campaign will still be greatly needed after transplant because it will render Jerry unable to work for several months, if everything goes well for him.

Through out the crisis, Denise has worked hard to continue her work with children on the autism spectrum and teaching a special needs dance class at her home dance studio as her income and Jerry's social security income will be the source of money to pay what they can each month.  Funds for this campaign will be used to supplement this small income and ensure bills are paid, especially their mortgage payments and medical bills.

The family is in a critical financial crisis. Jerry's diagnosis came out of regular blood work taken at his physical. The family has already dipped into their savings quite a bit to stay afloat so far. They're goal is to raise enough funds to stay in their home, pay incoming medical/transportation costs and be able to focus on getting Jerry as healthy as possible again.

The family thanks you for sharing and donating.
