On July 11, 2018 Jessica was going about her busy life, working, being a mom to Ellie, age 9, and finishing up a college internship. On this summer day she had just finished a session with a client when she was overtaken by a siezure, lost consciousness and had to be rushed to the emergency room by ambulance.
The next day Jessica found out that MRI scans had revealed a brain tumor. She also had inflammation and pressure on the motor nerve. She continued to have seizures which have been somewhat controlled by two medications and a steroid. Jessica remained in the hospital for eight nights, undergoing a biopsy and more scans.
She was released and went home awaiting the results of the biopsy and plan of action from the neurosurgeon. Feeling somewhat better and having permission from the doctor, she went back to work for a couple days, but quickly realized this was not going to be an option, as it was too much of a physical and mental demand for her to do her job properly.
Jessica owns her own business as an Ayurvedic Health Practitioner and Body Therapist. She is self-employed and gets paid directly from her clients, providing alternative medicine consultations and Ayurvedic body work in her La Mesa office.
This is a one woman show and if she doesn't work she doesn't get paid. She does not have benefits from an employer. She has had to cancel all her appointments indefinitely. She does have health insurance, but her portion of responsibility for her medical bills is still quite high. The goal on this fundraiser is $5,000 but this is just a starting point, an arbitrary amount to get the ball rolling.
What is next? Jessica is scheduled for surgery on August 10 to remove the tumor, at least most of it. The rest will be treated with radiation or chemotherapy. At this point it is unknown what the total financial burden to Jessica will be, as this is far from being over.
As friends of Jessica we are putting this out there as a response to people asking, "how can I help?" and "is there a fundraiser?" Please join us in supporting Jessica through her healing process. And thank you!!!
