Hi! My name is jessica. Here's my story. I was 20 years old when I was diagnosed with a mixed connective tissue disease with symptoms of lupus rheumatoid arthritis and fibromialgia. It's completely taken over my body to the point the that I am now considered to b fully disabled. Well about 6 years ago when all this started I was growing in my wisdom teeth mind you I had 7 impacted wisdom teeth and due to the fact that I had this newly discovered chronic illness of course my body freaked out on the teeth i was growing in and attacked the joints around that area. It was so very painful. To the point that I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to put a spoon in it to eat soup. I lost about 70 lbs I was so sick I was losing a pound a day. So I was finally able to get those teeth pulled which relieved a lot of pain but because of all the damage done from my body attacking itself my joints completely deteriorated and I was left with nothing but bone in my jaw just rubbing raw against each other. Because of all that my jaw set back significantly and caused me to have severe sleep apnea so I did all the work I could to fix this problem I went to sleep studies tried a cpap. I finally went to an orthodontist. Got braces to align my teeth a certain way so they could break my top and bottom jaw and pull it forward. initially I had an oral surgeon set up and now I've had these braces on for over 2 years a year longer then expected and after this whole process my oral surgeon decides to tell me he doesn't except medicare. My only form of medical because even if I had another form of insurance they couldn't except it because Medicare is automatically my primary form of medical insurance. And I can't cancel medicare and get a different insurance because I'll lose all my disability benifits. So I call around looking for another oral surgeon and there is not one oral surgeon in new Mexico that excepts medicare! So here I am feeling completely hopeless thinking I have no options. And trust me I literally called EVERYWHERE oral surgeon. I even caked medicare and had them search for oral surgeons. So I decided to outsource to a different state and the closest I could find an oral surgeon was denver. So I called set up an appointment with dr. Mario Imola and I had to go all the way out to Denver for a consultation and MRI and CT scan and turns out me 26 years old has the jaw of a 100 year old person! I have to get a a joint replacement with an artifical joint and get my jaw moved forward so what was a 4 hour procedure with one surgeon turned into a 12 procedure with 2 surgeons and 4 days in the hospital. And medicare is only covering one surgeon because the other surgeon doesn't except medicare but is willing to let me pay outta pocket. Normally he charges about 4500 for the procedure but he's trying to help me out because my case is so severe and I'm in so much pain. He offered to do it for 1500. Which is a lot of money still to come up with in just a couple months. Not to mention I have to stay out there for an entire month to recover because I have to keep going back for check ups so I have to rent somewhere for me and my grandparents to stay ( my grandparents are going with me to help take care of me during recovery) and the cheapest place I could find are 1700-2000 for the month. But I have to do this. This is gonna change my life. After this surgery my sleep apnea will b gone and my brain won't wake up 56 times an hour to remind me to breath at night and I will be able to eat pain free again and I won't b tired all day everyday for every sleepless night and maybe just maybe I'll get a little normalcy back in my life. Anyways that's my story. Any ounce of help I receive will b more then greatly appreciated. I just want my life back! P.s. thanks for taking the time to read my story.
You can tell by this picture how set back my jaw is.
