Jett's Allergy Treatment Program
Donation protected
Since 3 months old, Jett has been suffering from severe food allergies (eggs, peanuts, wheat and dairy); requiring us to carry an epi-pen at all times. This was highly unexpected, as Rens nor I have any food allergies.
It has been a difficult and stressful 3 years: reading every label in agonizing detail, finding alternatives so he can feel like a "normal" kid, spending hours meal prepping to cook separate meals, and even at our most cautious, Jett has still had breakouts and reactions. Under our supervision it has been "manageable", but with school coming up in his near future, relying on others and his food allergies is very scary.
After a 1.5 year long wait, we are finally getting answers and there is hope! We are seeing Dr. Inderpal Randhawa at the Southern California Food Allergy Institute in Long Beach, CA to begin Oral Immunotherapy. Jett will need to go through this program for a minimum of 2 years. Food freedom (eating with no allergy limitations) is the ultimate goal; which is priceless for our family. However, treatment will cost an upwards of $10,000+. $4,500 per year will go towards the non-profit clinic fees, not including any additional blood or lab work, medicines, epi-pens, or buying specific rare foods to maintain Jett's daily food dosing. This is a heavy cost on both of our modest teacher salaries. Please follow Jett's Allergy Blog to learn more and keep up to date with our journey!
