My niece was first diagnosed with diabetes after her daughter was born 16years ago.
After some time the illness began to take its toll on Lorraine she had a delicate immune system and her small frame was under immense pressure.
5 years ago a small blister on Lorraine's foot became infected, which quickly progressed into a full blown infection.
Lorraine then had no option but to agree to have surgery to remove her leg below the knee.
Time has not been fair to my young niece and more life changing events came into her life.
Her kidneys became under stress and she is now on home dyallisis daily.
lorraine has lost a lot of weight due to her daily challenges, but the biggest challenge is the NHS artificial limb which has become a heavy burden and makes her walking very difficult.
She is at the moment nursing a bad infection on the area where her leg was amputated as it no longer fits the pocket due to weight loss.
It pains me to watch my niece struggle through life with her brave face and independant nature, oh and not forgetting the awful heavy leg that she never complains about.
I know it's a big amount but positive thinking patience and never giving up will make the journey easier.
Thank you for reading my story.
Stay safe
