Dearest friends and family,
Please do feel free to share as we want to spread the love for Mrs. Caines and information to all who have been so patient with us.
With eyes of tears, and hearts full of pride we would like to report Mrs. Jo Ann Caines passed away peacefully on Wednesday 6/6/18 with both children at each of her sides holding her hands, showering her with love and allowing to her pass comfortably and privately.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all you have done already by supporting our wishes, sending prayers, and being an amazing part in the legacy of our mother Mrs. Jo Ann Caines. She is a leader, hero, and a woman who entered this world and left this world STRONG. It brings us to tears to write this and makes us so proud to hear from the thousands whose lives she tremendously impacted for the better. She had a tireless passion for education and for this her legacy of helping children, we will fight to continue to carry on as her proud children.
Mrs. Jo Ann Caines was born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA and ventured to UCLA to complete her college education and continued to travel to places like New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She even lived in countries such as Spain to teach English to others and always had a true drive to help others. Santa Barbara has always been home however, and she returned in 1986 and La Cumbre became her love and passion along with helping a few other schools and any organizations to benefit our local youth.
We wanted you all to know that Mrs. Caines before her passing wanted to extend her utmost gratitude to friends, family, students, staff and all of those who just made her world worth fighting for! She has touched the lives of so many in her 30+ years working with the school districts and we can take peace knowing she did it because she loved it.
Mrs. Caines was proud to be the principal of La Cumbre Junior High School and Adams Elementary which will always be a part of her Legacy. Remember the advice, lessons, goals, and time you spent with her. For as you succeeded, her memory lives on. Please know that Mrs. Caines, was and will always be a Lancer having started and ending her decades of her career there, her heart and spirit will always be at La Cumbre Jr High. These halls were her home, the staff her relatives, and the students, she truly raised like her own children.
We want to conclude by saying we are so proud to call Mrs. Caines our mom and so blessed with the support that has poured in from the community with warm wishes, prayers, and love for all of us. Her legacy will live on...We are planning on a way to have her name live on in a scholarship or fund, so that her magnanimous reach will continue to touch lives in this community. She inspired both of us, her children, to pursue careers in education as teachers, and we now encourage her students to chase your dreams and passions, with the same determination and tenacity that she had for your education.
As most of you know she was a tireless champion for youth in this community. She was unapologetically committed to whatever it took to support students. She loved what she did and we couldn't be more proud of her.
Ms. Caines worked even to the DAY she went into the hospital still not retired as she wanted to continue to fight for her students and their success. Given how quickly this all occurred we are trying out best to cope but were not in any way prepared or expecting this outcome. The help already provided was tremendous and made her last month a truly comfortable and amazing month for her and we cannot thank everyone enough. We are now preparing for her Memorial Services and as she is SO loved by the community and the costs are becoming quite overwhelming. As a family we decided to open a Memorial fund to provide this amazingly wonderful woman a beautiful and amazing memorial that ALL are welcome to attend.
I know many would like to say their goodbyes, thanks you, say some of her favorite jokes, it will be an open to ANYONE. We feel it is our way of saying thank you for allowing her last moments to be so private, as she preferred. We would never want to make anyone obligated, but any help to provide this truly amazing woman with a service would be a blessing.
Any help provided to help our families grieve and deal with the burden of bereavement would help us honor our mother the way she deserves, with all her loved friends and family there. All raised money will go directly to Mrs. Caines Memorial services. We decided to open this Memorial Fund as we have been poured with love and asked for ways to help and right now this is our greatest need.
There will be more information coming on her services soon and we will make sure all are provided this information.
Love,
Annette & Doug Caines
