Keep It Clean

This is not an official non-profit organization at this point, so donations are not tax deductable. Hopefully we can do our part to help those less fortunate and still render unto Caesar, as it were.

Funds raised by this page are used to purchase personal hygeine products for the homeless in the Philadelphia area.  

There are resources available to supply food to the homeless; food banks, food stamps, and so forth, but keeping yourself clean is another matter, and it's important.

For one thing, if someone is looking for gainful employment, they have to have a way to make themselves presentable. If you're on the street and you don't want to stay there, you have to keep yourself clean.

But there is also the psychological aspect. A person who is not clean smells bad, and people generally avoid people who smell bad. The homeless find themselves rejected by society and eventually may start to avoid being near other people in order to avoid that rejection. 

The homeless person withdraws from society, their self-respect takes a beating, and their prospects for getting off the street become more remote.

The "goal" indicated here is largely an arbitrary number. A package of hygeine items (soap, washcloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) costs about ten dollars, and as we acquire funds, we purchase the items, place them in a plastic shoe box, and leave them under a bridge or the highway where they are available to whoever needs them.

This has largely been an out-of-pocket ministry by a small group of friends, so there has been no accounting thus far. If it's required by some, I guess we can figure something out. Suggestions are welcome.
