Help fund Jessica & Julia's scooters!!
Julia and Jessica Bonamassa are 13 year old twins. They were born healthy and participated in sports from a young age. They both played soccer and softball and were very active children. At age 9 ½, both girls began showing signs that something was very wrong. The girls were falling frequently and having difficulty running. They were seen at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where tests were done. At CHOP, with Mom and Dad (Michelle and Sal) and Big Sister Natalie at their side, the girls were given devastating news. Both twins were diagnosed with FHSD, a form of Muscular Dystrophy. This is a progressively deteriorating muscle disease, which has no cure or treatment to prevent progression. This disease has affected them physically and physiologically as well. They are now 13 years old and cannot walk stairs or get around easily. While they try to live as typical teenagers, they are limited by their inability to walk long distances. They aren’t able to go to the mall, go to sporting events, go on class trips or even walk around their school easily. Despite their challenges, Julia and Jessica are very intelligent girls. Both have maintained honor roll with all A’s and B’s in their 8 years of schooling. Physically, things are becoming very challenging for them. It’s extremely difficult for them to get from class to class at school because they are unable to walk long distances. They will begin High School at Eastern High School in the fall, which is a very large school. The girls are in desperate need of electric scooters capable of getting them up school ramps and through the school each day. Since June, the family has attempted to get these scooters approved by medical insurance, but have been denied numerous times. The scooters cost about $2500. The family home also needed chair lifts installed, which cost over $5000. The home also needs a new handicap-accessible door installed, higher toilets and a new shower set up for Julia and Jessica to be able to live as normally as possible. Please help and donate funds to help Julia and Jessica Bonamassa! These beautiful young women need and deserve our assistance!
