Jumping For The Dogs - Tanamera

Tanamera is a small animal rescue, located in the north of the Costa Blanca, privately run by Arjan and Jacky Hazeleger. Their goal is to give abandoned dogs a chance, when they are unwanted, abandoned and there is no other place for them to go.

The local municipal dog pounds are all full. And even if there was space, some dogs just don´t belong there. The dog pounds in our region do an excellent job, but have their hands full and limited budgets. Some dogs just need special care, medical treatment, socializing and/or rehabilitation. That is why Tanamera cake care of the very old, ill, abused, unsocial, traumatized or very young dogs. Most of the dogs rescued are hunting dogs (podencos). "Our strength, is also our weakness...
We are a rescue, not a dog pound, and have chosen to live with our dogs, 24/7, 365 days per year. Our dogs live in total freedom, all together as one pack and are never kept in kennels. Our dogs become part of our own family or (foster) families. Sadly the result of working with foster homes instead of a dog pound, is that we can not always take all dogs in. Our strength, is also our biggest weakness. Dogs need to fit into the packs and space in our home and our fosterhomes is very limited. That is why adoptions are so important. We can only take new dogs, when others leave!!!

Our goal...
Our goal is to help dogs with special needs. But we do more than that! We help with rehoming dogs from owners, charities and pounds, and help cover their veterinary costs when we can, because we understand that some people just can´t afford to get their dog spayed or treated. Main thing is, we start where most dog pounds stop. This makes that our little rescue is not a competitor...but an addition to the local organisations. Together we stand strong!"
