Kiah Morris is a former Vermont legislator representing Bennington and was Vermont's only Black woman legislator. Due to ongoing racial harassment and threats to her well-being and that of her family, Kiah withdrew from her uncontested race. Her story of success and struggle have been covered in over four dozen media outlets including CNN, The Huffington Post, New York Times, Washington Post, The Hill, Essence Magazine, Canadian Broadcasting Company, BBC Radio and Vice Media.
Recently, the Vermont Attorney General announced that the state would not pursue any charges against the perpetrators nor provide any recourse for Kiah or her family regarding their ordeal. This decision has rocked the nation and leaves people of color and marginalized communities in Vermont vulnerable and erodes their right to be protected from the violent effects of hate crimes and hate speech. This cannot stand.
This campaign is to raise enough money to support this hefty legal battle for justice and support her family as Kiah works to fights this hate. Every donation helps.
