On Saturday, August 14, 2016, 26 year-old Taylor Justin Williams, was brutally murdered outside the home of his ex-girlfriend in Kingsland, Georgia. A veteran U.S. Army medic who honorably served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, Taylor was stabbed 12 times in the back and quickly succumbed to his wounds on her front lawn. Taylor was unarmed and defenseless. Taylor’s good friend, who was with him that night, tried to pull the two men off of him and was stabbed multiple times too. Thankfully he survived. There were 4 other people present - Taylor’s ex-girlfriend, her roommate and two young men, both servicemen in the Army. Even though the authorities knew exactly who was responsible for the murder, not one of the four were arrested or even detained for questioning. The next morning, the entire crime scene was washed away with bleach and the murder knife was recovered from the neighbor’s yard after being hidden there the night before.
In the days following Taylor’s murder, and the year that has passed since, Taylor’s family in Connecticut has realized how poorly his case was handled. While nothing can bring Taylor back, we will absolutely seek justice for his untimely death. This GoFundMe campaign was started by Ryan Ratelle, Taylor’s uncle, on behalf of his mother, Nichole Flannery Williams. #JusticeForTaylorWilliams is seeking a minimum of $120K to assist with the legal fees associated with launching a civil lawsuit (which can be filed as soon as the case if officially closed and all paperwork has been filed) in order to hold those responsible for Taylor’s untimely, wrongful death accountable. More importantly, the family intends to retain high-level lawyers to go beyond the local court system, get the case reopened, and a federal manslaughter charge and accessory to murder charges.
Nichole and her husband Terry have already spent thousands of dollars in travel expenses and other incidentals and will continue to match a good portion of the funds raised in order to ensure justice.
The grief of losing a young loved one is difficult enough, however, the pain and heartache of knowing that the individuals responsible are able to walk free, and have benefitted financially by his death, is unbearable.
Please help us in our crusade to win #JusticeForTaylorWilliams.
Excess funds raised will be donated to www.pawsandstripes.org, a nonprofit organization providing service dogs for wounded military veterans with PTSD - "not all wounds are visible." In the meantime, we encourage you to visit their website and learn more about their noble cause.
