My name is Justin Carter, on Feb, 14, 2013 I was arrested for writing a tasteless joke on Facebook. I was charged with the Third Degree Felony of Terroristic Threat. here is more information on my bond and arrest
I was given a Five-Hundred Thousand dollar bond and kept in jail for six months suffering a large number of abuses. Thankfully Social Media and National Networks spread information of the injustice of being jailed for using my constitutional right to freedom of speech, and an anonymous donor stepped forward and gave the state of Texas Five-Hundred Thousand dollars in full to have me released after seeing news of my case. Due to the news coverage I also received two wonderful lawyers Chad Van Brunt and Don Flannary of https://www.flanarylawfirm.com/ Pro-Bono who spent five years of their lives fighting for justice for me.
On March, 28th, 2018 my lawyers were able to secure me a Plea-Deal with the state of Texas to reduce my charges from Terroristic Threat to False Alarm or Report under Penal Code Section 42.06. Which provides that “a person commits an offense if he knowingly initiates, communicates or circulates a report of a present, past, or future bombing, fire, offense, or other emergency that he knows is false or baseless.” It is a Class -A Misdemeanor.
In exchange for pleading guilty to this charge I was offered time served which means that the six months I spent in jail were counted towards my release. I was also offered no restitution for lost wages during this time and any lawsuit I might be able to file would take years to bring to fruition leaving me destitute. During these four and a half years I was out on bond I had a large number of extremely restricting conditions, which prevented me from attaining a stable job, and prevented me from accessing the internet to work or apply for work. Now that this case is over I'm asking the people who have been supporting me with kindness to extend that kindness and help me start my life.
I'm asking for a year's salary to get my life together after five years of dealing with this tremendous burden.
With this money I have plans to get my life back on track and do what I've been wanting to do for the last five years.
I plan on spending money on a new or used vehicle which will allow me to travel to work in town over an hour and a half away.
I plan on purchasing a computer workstation for career opportunities.
I will be purchasing equipment to focus on my dream job of becoming an Entertainer and Comedian with new media. I will start a twitch.com live stream and buy equipment to stream with. I will also make videos on YouTube to entertain and inform others about freedom of speech and the dangers of laws pertaining to online content.
I need this money within the month to survive for the next year and with your help I might finally have Justice.
