“You never know how

                                     strong

                                   you are….

                until being strong is your

                       only choice you have.”

This is what Jyrel has to live by, when a year ago his life was interrupted by a horrific, near fatal accident.

All I had that day was 5 minutes and “I love you mom”. He wasn’t home from college for 5 minutes that awful day; with his usual burst of energy he was off to see his childhood friends. I let him go…not knowing that this would be the last time I would see my child in a healthy state of mind and body. In total Jyrel was home for 7 minutes total before our lives changed drastically!

Born in New Rochelle, NY, Jyrel was that kid who loved Power Rangers, Harry Potter, Pokeman, and Star Wars.

He enjoyed playing basketball with his friends, Marvel, and NBA 2K. He was also was completing an excel MBA.

He was supposed to be one of the great ones, he had a humble spirit, loved his family and friends, appreciated life and was a great source of help. There wasn’t one person who crossed his path that didn’t love being in his presence.

All of this  was taken away when a car traveling minimum 72 mph in a 25 mph zone crashed into the car that Jyrel and his childhood friends were driving. The car my son was in was completely totaled and they had to use the Jaws of Life to remove him from the car. He was the most critically injured. After being in a coma for 6 months, my son is now left with severe  traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Jyrel is now left to fight battles every single day,  as he suffers from TBI brain swelling, seizures, Autonomic storms, contractures, and is completely bedridden. All of his care relies on people to move him, feed him, and advocate for him; these are only a few of the struggles that Jyrel experiences each day. Through it all I have remained thankful and grateful that my son is still with me. But for Jyrel, its not fair, he did nothing to deserve this. His youth, his vibrant life, has been take away by the act of a reckless person.

A portion of Jyrel's skull had to be removed and his brain is protected by titanium mesh.  He has difficulty swallowing, communicating his daily needs, and moving his body. Jyrel has medication that has to be pumped through an implant in is stomach, due to the brain injury to help with the severe pain he endures every single day. These seizures have left his body in a cerebral palsy state, which has him in constant, excruciating pain.

Jyrel is now home with us, where his care is monitored by 24 hour nurses, aides and numerous social workers and therapists. The cost of his care is more than insurances will cover. We get limited supplies, limited therapy sessions, and often times have to come out of pocket to make sure Jyrel has what he needs to stay alive!

If you are able, please donate what you can to help wothers Jyrel's recovery. His medical expenses are mounting, and due to insurance issues, I am getting limited resources, such as therapy, supplies, supplemental feeding, and medical equipment.

If you are not able to give, your fervent prayers for my son, Jyrel are considered a most welcome blessing!!

Thank you for caring. Thank you for your support.
