Prayers for Zakeyah
Donation protected
Zakeyah was a healthy, vibrant, energetic, beautiful baby girl just on the verge of learning to crawl, up until the day she turned 7 months old. She had a sudden onset of a high fever, and refused to eat. She was diagnosed 2 days later with severe case of Pneunococcal Meningits and Septicaemia. Both, life threatening diseases. Once diagnosed, she deteriated quickly and was transferred to a larger hospital in our area where she was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. There she lays high on a bed where it is difficult to even reach and kiss her (restrained) precious hands, in an induced coma, and placed on a ventilator, in an attempt to let her precious little brain rest while she cant even be held by those who love her most. Mom and dad have been by her side where they should be, while Gramma and Grampa help take care of her twin sister Zakiyah and 4 yr old brother Zandyn. We have been told that if she survives it will be a long road, and hospitilization could be for an extended period of time. The scans are showing that her brain has been injured. It could be some time before we know the extent.
Here is where you can help. They are worried as their baby girl fights for her life, while still having to face reality of life. Her parents are making a choice to miss work, with no pay. Right now, they are where every parent should be, right by Zakeyahs side. If she comes out of the sedation and wakes up, it will be to everyones benefit if Mom and Dad are there support and comfort her. They both have employment where the pay is minimal and they recieve no benefits AT ALL. No sick time, no vacation time, no family medical leave pay etc.... The concern is how they can be there for Zakeyah as well as pay the rent, lights, heat, food etc. to keep the house going for the other children. They will also start to accrue costs for travel as they take turns to go home and raise the rest of their family. If there is any way you can spare even just a little, it will be appreciated and go a long way, both monitarily and mentally as some of the stress is relieved financially. (here is more information about the disease) http://www.meningitis.org/disease-info/types-causes/pneumococcal
Thank you in advance for ANY assistance you can provide as the family is very private, but the story needed to be told.
