Veteran lost K9 therapy companion
Donation protected
Ian Kennedy is a veteran of two tours of duty in Afghanistan, seven years in the US army. Due to the trauma of combat, he was given a therapy dog by the army, a German Shepherd named Xena, trained by the military to be at his side at all times, a true companion. Ian has been back in the US with Xena since October, 2014 and Xena has been loyal and very protective of him until, sadly, she was struck by a car and died shortly afterward in January, We are all heartbroken at the loss of this beautiful young dog. Initially, Ian felt there was no replacement for the companion he loved so much, but slowly he is becoming open to the idea of adopting a new friend. The cost of a new dog will be between $800 and $1,500, and then the price of training her specifically to be a therapy service dog will be about $600-800. As Ian's aunt and uncle, who he lives with, and under whose watch Xena was struck down, we are asking you to please help us replace, as much as we can, Ian's cherished companion. No one has ever loved a dog more than Ian loved Xena - a new dog will be a great help to his recovery. Below is a video of a Lifetime television show which includes brief footage of Ian and Xena at around the 5 minute mark. Please help.
