Caracas Exposed! First QT Arts Fest
Donation protected
WHAT IS CARACAS EXPOSED: QUEER ARTS FEST?
Caracas Expuesta/Caracas Exposed will be the first queer and trans arts festival in Venezuela. Our festival envisions three objectives: to break with the social taboo that prevents us from talking about homo and transphobia as social problems that affect everyone, to build dignity through reclaiming public space, and to increase a sense of belonging for our LGBTQI communities to feel less vulnerable to violence.
Caracas Exposed will be held mostly outdoors in the streets of Caracas, and it will bring together artists and performers from different art forms including theater, film, photography, music, dance, design and urban arts. The festival will run for 9 days in three different neighborhoods of Caracas, and it will be FREE to the public. We envision an accessible festival that will engage the largest number of folks in our city, and we need your help to make this happen!
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS FESTIVAL?
Queer and Trans communities throughout Latin America continue to experience historical forms of oppression, including homophobia and transphobia. For over a decade, Venezuela has generated many productive struggles for social justice; however, heterosexist violence continues to be a problem that needs to be addressed. Queer and Trans communities are looking for ways to increase safety that will impact their daily lives both at home and in the streets.
Caracas Exposed is one of the collective responses we are generating as queer and trans communities who believe that racial and economic justice are fought alongside queer liberation struggles. We want to invite folks from all backgrounds to join our vision for liberation through building connections in these cultural spaces. We invite you to start building with us by donating today and investing in an international struggle for queer and trans liberation that is based on self-determination.
WHAT THE CASH IS FOR
About 80% of the funds will be used for production costs: technical equipment, artists' materials, videos and documentation, transportation, etc. The rest of the funds will benefit the artists who will participate, from food for to small stipends. Most of the cost of the festival will be covered by donated labor and volunteers, so every dollar you give today is practically doubled!
WHO WE ARE
We are “Red de Arte Diverso,” or Queer Arts Network, a group of artists and activists that emerged out of the vision to expand the artistic and cultural power of queer and trans communities. In this process of creation, we are calling on the transformation of heteronormative culture. We are looking to redefine our culture of resilience and resistance from below, and we need your support. Make a donation today and make Caracas Exposed a reality!
