Peace, I'm Jamii and I'm opening a co-op bookstore in the North End neighborhood of Detroit dedicated to uplifting the work of Michigan authors & artists of color.
The 1st phase (by June 2017) of the project is to:
1) create marketing material for the bookstore,
2) add authors & artists to the co-op through a series of public informationals,
3) create a catalog of co-op books and art,
4) ready a storage space for inventory,
5) vend at Eastern Market & Sowing Seeds Growing Futures, open air markets in Detroit and
6) create an online market place for the bookstore.
The 2nd phase (August 2017) of the project is a soft launch of the bookstore in a leased storefront on 9417 John R.
The 3rd phase (June 2018) is the grand opening of the bookstore and tea corner on 511 E. Bethune, that will renovate an old barbershop into a literary wonderland.
The funds will be used as start up capital for these following things:
500- Space rental for 3 public meetings
2500 - inventory - detroit & michigan based books, music & merc
2000 - shelving, tables, chairs, storage + installation labor created in collaboration with youth carpenters of Detroit
2000 - Marketing, Promotion (Banners, table setup, flyers, direct mailers, etc..)
1500 - Development of online market place and physical catalog
2400 - 12 months of ultilies for temporary bookstore space

1000 - Intern fund
1000 - Soft Construction Costs - architectural renderings for final bookstore, cultural center and tea corner

Peace + Much Love,
-Jamii
