Grandma Honey and Deeanne

My Aunt DeeAnne and my Grandma Honey were in a head on collision on January 7th on East Valley Highway, which closed the road down for hours.  Unfortunately Grandma Honey passed away on January 18th after a long, hard fight to stay alive.  Aunt DeeAnne is still fighting for her life.

Aunt DeeAnne has had 6 different surgeries and just had one leg amputated. She has fractured ribs, now has 7 screws and 2 plates in her left arm, her right arm is so swollen that she cannot even make a fist, she had a puncture in her aorta (main vein in her heart), her right leg has had surgery two different times, and she has a broken right ankle.  Can you imagine going from doing everything for yourself and others to not being able to do anything?  She cannot feed herself, she cannot even move in the hospital bed without someone helping her.

Grandma Honey had 3 small bleeds in her brain, fractured vertebrae, fractured ribs, a broken hip and broken wrist and hand. Grandma Honey had surgery on her hip and after that everything went downhill.  She had a breathing tube in her for a week after surgery, we then had to remove the tube and hope she was strong enough to breath on her own.  She was having a problem coughing and swallowing, her gag reflux was to week.  Her lungs had a lot of mucus so it was hard for her to breathe.  When we could get her to cough we had to suction her mouth out because she could not swallow.   My Grandma should not have passed away from a car accident, she should have passed from old age, in her bed while she was sleeping.

We as a family know we will have to let God work his magic.  It makes me sad to think my Aunt never got to say good bye to her mom who she has cared for, for over five years. The last time she saw her mom was when she woke up from the car accident, inside of a car where she could not move and the Jaws of Life were used to get them out of the car.

My Aunt now has had heart surgery plus many other surgeries to save her life. She was just a woman who worked, took care of her mom with dementia and went to school to become a drug and alcohol counselor. This car crash could have been prevented! The man who hit them had no insurance so nothing will be covered by him. The man that hit my family was driving erratically and passed another vehicle on a highway, around a corner and hit them head on.  This man walked out of the hospital the very next day.  The case is under investigation.

We are now trying to find a way to pay all of my Aunt’s bills while she is in ICU at Harbour View. My grandma has now been cremated, with no funeral.  We would like to give Grandma Honey a funeral when Aunt DeeAnne is able to attend.  Aunt DeeAnne’s home is not wheelchair accessible so we will have to pack her things and put them in storage until she is able to live in her own place.  She will need a van that can hold a wheelchair. My family and I are asking for help, anything you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please share, share, share this post and get this out there. God bless!!
