Help Ashton J. Ross Stay in School

Greetings!

My name is Ashton J. Ross and I am a Sophomore Professional Theatre (Performance Concentration) student pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at North Carolina A&T State University, the nation's largest Historically Black College/University.

I arrived at A&T in Fall 2015 as a 24 year old non-traditional, out-of-state student and completed most of my general education credits as an Urban & Community Horticulture major. Since this is an Agricultural & Technical university, I was able to receive help from my department in order to pay for school as they were well endowed by alumni. However, this semester I made the decision to follow my passion and pursue a degree in Theatre.

I started acting at 8 years old with a community theater in The Heights neighborhood of Houston, Texas (my hometown) and all throughout grade school I was involved in performing arts. In high school I received multiple state recognized UIL One Act Play and Speech & Debate tournament medals and honors including three Best Actor and two All Star Cast awards. When I originally started college in 2008 at Stephen F. Austin State, I was a theater major there as well, becoming one of only three freshman to be cast in the fall musical "Big River", before my academic and performing endeavors were derailed by Crohn's disease, a chronic illness I have suffered from since 2004.

Now that I have returned to my first love, this semester alone I have achieved numerous exploits in this BFA program including being cast in every one of the four shows for the 2016-2017 academic school year (three leading roles), appearing in a vignette that aired on national television produced by ESPNs "The Undefeated" when President Barack Obama spoke on the campus of NCA&T, and receiving a nomination to compete this coming Spring for the Irene Ryan scholarship award at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for my performance in NCA&T's Fall 2016 production of Langston Hughes' "Black Nativity."

My future in this department and in the business of performing arts is very bright as you can see and this coming semester it would be my honor to appear in NCA&T's production of "Plenty of Time" as well as represent my university at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and hopefully WIN the Irene Ryan scholarship... but none of these things will be accomplished if the remaining balance of my Fall 2015 tuition is not paid in full by January 1st so that I may register for classes and return as a full time student to A&T in the Spring.

Any donation helps and is greatly appreciated and if you are unable to donate please share this link with everyone you know!

God bless and happy holidays.
