Keeping Bri Living the Life

Brianna, or as we call her, Bri, is known by those around her as a princess dog. She is a mellow pup who mostly wants to just hang out at home with her mom beside her but she puts up with trips to the shore, visits with friends, and doing errands as frequently as possible. She loves all food but she gets extra excited when she is offered a bit of canned whipped cream or her mom scatters popcorn around. One of Bri's mom's favorite activities is walking the shoreline so Bri gets a lot of ocean time and pics taken of her at the beach!
Bri will be 9 years old the end of September and we will celebrate fiercely because of all she's been through medically these past few years.
We almost lost Bri a few times and she is prescribed several medications that keep her alive and as stable as possible. These meds cost over $300 per month and even though Bri has pet insurance, her allotments are capped within the first month of any fiscal year, leaving the rest of the many thousand dollars of expenses per year up to her mom who is on disability for living with a rare disease.
It is a great stress that Bri could need more care that cannot be paid for as well as something interfering with ability to purchase her daily-needed meds.
Bri has grand mal seizures and requires 2 types of seizure medicines. She has an autoimmune disease that has been believed to have attacked her brain, causing tremors, pain and disorientation. She is stable at this point but requires steroids and immune suppressants. She has unknown gastrointestinal problems that cause reflux periodically, takes pepcid regularly, and occasionally other meds are added temporarily when symptoms flare. Bri has had extremely elevated liver enzymes and requires a liver enzyme supplement that her pet insurance refuses to cover at all. Her immune suppression causes her to not be able to handle any infections that the rest of us could ward off easily and she occasionally ends up in emergency visits for antibiotics. When shaving is required due to testing, IV or infection, her fur does not grow back and the reason for this has not been found. She has several areas still fur-less from almost 3 years ago when she first became so ill.
Bri's care has cost approximately $26,000 since becoming so ill almost 3 years ago; her meds (approx $300/month), neurologist and local vet followups and pet insurance fees total more than $6000 per year. This does not include emergencies.
These meds are not temporary; they are a lifelong treatment and there is great concern there will be a day when there will be no money for her care. Her mom is already hurting badly financially and the cost of this medical care is a huge factor.
Everyone who knows Bri appreciates what a wonderful being she is; she has made many people smile and this has to be worth something. She is her mom's main purpose in life and her mom loves her with her whole heart. She has done everything possible to keep Bri stable and give her opportunities to live the best quality of life she can be offered. She will continue to do everything in her power to make everything work in Bri's favor but could use some help if anyone is in a position to.
