What would you do if suddenly you woke up and were unable to walk? That is what happened to Kelly Roberts. Kelly was diagnosed with Sacroiliitis, which causes excruciating pain in the tailbone/hip area making it impossible to walk when it flares up. Kelly is a self employed single mother who was born and raised in Ocala Florida. She has two children, Stephanie and Abby. Abby has a rare genetic disease called smith-lemli-opitz syndrome or SLOS for short. She is completely handicapped and attends Hillcrest school for exceptional Students. Kelly has always worked very hard to provide a nice home for herself and her two daughters. Kelly fell on hard times like many others in 2010, and her house went into foreclosure. Since she was self employed, Kelly worked with a lawyer and filed a Ch. 13 repayment agreement and was able to save the family's home. She has already paid in over $100,000 and has less than 2 years remaining in the agreement. However, If she doesn't make the agreed upon payments, she will default and lose all that she's worked for. She is currently behind and needs to make two payments IMMEDIATELY or risk forfeiture. Due to Kelly's current condition, she has been unable to walk, and therefore unable to work in nearly 4 weeks! So needless to say, she hasn't had much of any income. Kelly has started seeing a physical therapist and is desperately hoping to be back to work within the next couple of weeks. Kelly and her daughters are caring, giving and very loving people. They frequently give their time to help others. This is the first time Kelly hasn't been able to work and provide for her family. So of course she was embarrassed and did not want to ask anyone for help. However, the threat of losing her children's home is eminent and she doesn't have enough money to pay the bills such as car insurance , Electric, Water Etc. Not to mention that Kelly drives a Corolla with over 235,000 miles on it. Kelly has been very humbled from this experience and she is trusting that empathetic working people will come through for her and her children. Kelly's biggest fear is that she and her girls will lose their home for Christmas. The best gift of all this year would be knowing that they have a home to live in.
