KEN'S LAST WISHES WERE THAT WE TAKE CARE OF HIS FAMILY
On Wednesday, July 25th, at 5:20 p.m. our dear friend, Pastor Ken Stravens entered the glorious presence of the Lord. Emily, Natalie and Eva and a few close friends were with him as he left his earthly body and entered the Lord’s presence. Pastor Ken has been battling late stage lung cancer for the past year.
Ken was a missionary for over 25 years in Africa, and most recently, in Toronto, Canada where they have been ministering among an international multi-cultural community. Just a year ago in July, after a seemingly innocent visit to the emergency room for a troubling cough that would not go away, the family received the devastating news that Ken had stage 4 lung cancer. After targeted therapy, the past 10 months have been somewhat stable for Ken. But in the beginning of July, just three weeks ago, the coughing started troubling Ken once again and progressed to the point where he was coughing out blood. A CT scan revealed that the cancer had spread rapidly and was now in the left lung, the spine and abdomen. They also found a blood clot. While in hospital, a palliative care team was engaged to control and manage Ken’s pain and nausea.
This has truly been a heartbreaking time for the family. Emily and the girls have been taking time to take care of their dad/spouse and this has meant less time to be at work which has depleted all their savings & income. Even though Ken was able to get some social benefits while out of work, those are no longer coming in.
Ken continued to be very strong and positive even when in great pain, trusting the Lord until the end. His family’s faith has given them tremendous courage in the face of uncertainty. We appreciate that so many of you have kept Ken and the family in your thoughts and prayers. Emily and the girls definitely need your continued help and support. Anything you can do to make this precious family’s life a little easier during this difficult time will be so much appreciated.
The setting up of Ken’s GoFundMe page is to assist the family with unpaid medical and personal expenses. The needs are great, but we believe God will supply above and beyond all that they can imagine. As Ken frequently said, “God is good all the time. All the time God is good.”
