Cole's U.S. Revolution Trip

Donation protected
The U.S. Revolution was created to provide American youth soccer players aged 11-18 with an opportunity to play internationally in multiple countries in Europe.  The teams are typically made up of players from many states and will compete against teams from many different countries.  They seek to reward talented players whom also possess the character worth rewarding, hence they are regarded for both their good character and their skill.
Cole was recently selected to be a part of this team.  We are thrilled for Cole and this incredible opportunity to do what he loves so dearly and also represent, not only the U.S. but also our state of Mississippi.  By making a donation to this site , you are helping Cole take advantage of this incredible soccer opportunity.  To read more about Cole, please see his Bio below.  Thank you for your support.  Thank you and God Bless!

Cole Miller's Biography for US Revolution

I would first like to express my appreciation for the opportunity to interview and potentially travel to Europe this summer with the US Revolution.  My name is Cole Miller, I am 13 years old, and I live in Hattiesburg, MS.  I believe I would be an excellent addition to your roster.  I love soccer.  I have been playing soccer for 4 years.  I currently play for our local club’s team, the HFC Thunder ’02.  I practice 3 days a week with my team and 1 day a week with my private coach, and then play most weekends. With that said, soccer is an important part of my life, it’s not my whole life.  I like to read, play xbox, hang out with friends, play with my dog Belle, and go deep-sea fishing with my Dad.  I recently started archery and hope to get good enough to start bow fishing this summer.

I feel I would be a good addition to your roster because I work very hard.  My soccer accomplishments include starting in rec, moving to D2, and now playing for a Select team in Hattiesburg.  I recently tried out for the Mississippi ODP (Olympic Development Program).  I earned a spot on the training team.  I am going to work as hard as I can to make the team this spring.  Hard work does not bother me.  Another one of my accomplishments and the one I am most proud of is my struggle with Dyslexia.  Many people consider dyslexia to be a curse, but I consider it a blessing in my life.  It led me to where I am today.  I was not diagnosed with dyslexia until the end of 3rd grade.  My school life prior to Hattiesburg was very hard.  I went to 3 schools in 3 years.  I was even called stupid by a teacher. Those words still bother me today and push me to prove her otherwise. She did not understand dyslexia.  When I was finally diagnosed with a rare type of dyslexia, I was so far behind the other kids that there was not much that could be done in a normal school to help me deal with it.  That is why I moved to Hattiesburg, to attend the 3D school.  The 3D school stands for Dynamic Dyslexia Design.  I spent two years retraining my brain to battle dyslexia.  Most people don’t understand dyslexia and dyslexic people are often put into remedial classes because the resources aren’t there in normal schools to provide dyslexic children an opportunity to overcome the disability.  A few good facts to know about dyslexia; there are many types.  Some of those types are associated with very high IQs and excellent soccer skills, HAHA.   Walt Disney, Albert Einstein, George Lopez, Thomas Edison, and George Patton all had dyslexia.  That is just a small number of famous, intelligent people who dealt with dyslixia.  They were all able to overcome it.  So, I knew I could do it as well.  After two hard years retraining my brain, my parents moved me to PCS (Presbyterian Christian School) in Hattiesburg.  PCS was recently recognized as one of the top 50 private schools in the United States.  It is an excellent school.  But, it’s hard.  So, of course I was very nervous going to PCS for the first time because of the horrific experiences I had at the 3 schools I attended before 3D.  I am proud to say that I had straight A’s my first year.  I currently have a Straight A average this year as well.  In addition to having straight A’s, I am 2nd in the whole school in our Dynamic Reader program.  I love to read, maybe because I couldn’t read until much later than other kids.  Because I like to read so much, the dynamic reader program isn’t really fair for the other kids, lol.  Most of them read because they have to, I read because I want to.  My favorite subjects are History and Bible.  They are a lot alike.  My favorite author is Rick Roirdan. He wrote Percy Jackson series (5 books), Kane Chronicles (3 books), and Heroes of Olympus series (5 books).  Each book had over 300 pages.  I read all of his books in 2014 plus other books.

With all my activities, I am stretched thin.  I attend Heritage United Methodist Church.  Through the church, I have packed boxes for Operation Christmas Child and food bags for Edwards Street Missions and recently attended a Confirmation Retreat at Camp Wesley Pines.  I am also a member of the Mississippi Junior Cotillion.  This is a program to teach respect and manners to young men.  Most importantly, with my personal struggle with Dyslexia, it is something that my family and I feel strongly about.  My family and I helped raise money for the 3D school expansion.  This expansion helped the 3D school accept and help more children.  We also ran in the 3D Jingle Bell Run fundraiser.  My dad dressed up like Santa Clause for the run.  It was pretty funny.  I was also chosen by the 3D school to be the spokesperson for the school in the local TV news series regarding Dyslexia awareness.  I also traveled to Jackson, MS to meet with Gove Phil Bryant (who is dyslexic) and other Mississippi lawmakers to lobby for the passing of Bill 1030 &1031.  These bills granted public assistance for any child diagnosed with dyslexia. It allowed the state money to follow dyslexic children to an alternative school like 3D so they could get help. This law passed in my final weeks at 3D.  It didn’t do anything for me but will help thousands of kids in Mississippi.  I am very proud to have helped paved the way for those kids.

My dad told me that you are looking for strong players to represent the US in England.  I know you will have a lot of great players to choose from.  I am sure that some of those players might have played longer than me and be stronger than me right now.  I think I will bring other qualities to the table other than just being good at soccer.  I work hard (Nobody will out work me), I play hard, and I pray hard.

I hope you will consider me for this year’s Revolution team.

Happy New Year!!

Thank you,
