Killeen NS Extension Building Fund
Killeen National School is situated in Killeen on the west coast of Ireland. We are located 7km west of the village of Louisburgh, approximately 28 km from Westport, Co Mayo.
The school is in a beautiful setting with breathtaking views of the surrounding Mweelrea Mountains, Croagh Patrick and the Atlantic Ocean incorporating the islands of Clare Island, Mweelán, Inisturk and on a clear day, Inishbofin.

Our school caters for pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. There are three mainstream class teachers, a full time learning support/resource teacher, a shared resource teacher and two special needs assistants.
We opened our Special Class, 'Sunbeams' on the 31st August 2015, operating from mainstream classrooms.
The opening of Sunbeams special class for pupils with multiple disabilities is a very positive step for Killeen National School.
Children in the class benefit from an enriched leaning environment and curriculum which addresses their specific needs, thus allowing children with a range of disabilities, who would otherwise have to travel long distances to remain within and play an active part in there own community.
Sunbeams special multi-disabilities class is only one of only two classes in Mayo.
The class has a low pupil teacher ratio, special needs assistants, multi-disciplinary supports and resources to enhance and facilitate learning for each child in the class.
Inclusion is a priority and pupils experience meaningful intergration with the mainstream classes as much as possible.
This benefits all the children and the wider schoool community.
This class aims to offer an interactive and specific learning environment within a mainstream, co-educational national school for children who would otherwise have to travel long distances to attend a Special School.
Official Opening of the New Extension Building
The Department of Education have allocated us a grant to build an extension to facilitate this special class.
Unfortunately there was a significant shortfall between the grant received from the Department of Education and the cost of the building work as the school building needed to be modified to accomodate the new extension. Approximately €120,000 is needed to make up this shortfall.
We already undertook several fundraising to reach the required funds.
So far we raised an amazing amount of €76,421.52
but we still need your more.. We need to raise approximately €45,000.. It is not a small amount but
we believe that we can do it..
Our next fundraising event is our Tractor Run on the 27th of May. It is promising to be a great family day..
We are calling upon the generosity of the local and wider community, past pupils near and far, extended family members, businesses etc. to help reach our goals..
We in Killeen are very proud of our school and we are confident that the provision of this extension will enjoy the same level of support as previous projects have.
If you would like to support our school, run a fundraising event, you can contact us or 'Donate' here .
