Help Kim Focus on Healing ❤️
Hi, my name is Mia, and my sister Kim was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and precancerous uterine cells at just 42 years old.
Kim is my big sister, but she is so much more than that to me. She is my person—the one who has been there for me through everything. Now, she is facing something incredibly difficult, and I want to be there for her in the same way she has always been there for me.
Kim has established care with an oncologist, breast surgeon, and radiation oncologist. Her breast cancer treatment plan includes a lumpectomy followed by five weeks of radiation therapy, Monday through Friday.
Unfortunately, Kim is also facing another major health issue. Her most recent pap smear showed abnormal cells, and after undergoing a LEEP procedure, it was confirmed that precancerous cells are present. Because of the increased risk of uterine cancer, her doctors have recommended a hysterectomy.
The hysterectomy will require an estimated 6–8 weeks away from work for recovery—on top of everything else she will already be going through with her cancer treatment.
Although Kim has health insurance, the financial burden of treatment is still significant. Each medical appointment comes with a $50 copay, and she expects to be responsible for up to $2,000 in deductible expenses. Another part of her cancer treatment involves 5-10 years of hormone therapy treatments and medication.
She will also have ongoing transportation costs because her treatment clinic is across town. Five weeks of daily radiation appointments will also affect her work schedule and result in additional lost income.
Then, after her hysterectomy, she will face another 6–8 weeks away from work while she recovers.
Being out of work for that long is financially frightening, especially while navigating cancer treatment, surgeries, medical bills, transportation expenses, and everything that comes with such a life-changing diagnosis.
I am starting this fundraiser because I want Kim to be able to focus on what matters most: getting through treatment, recovering, and healing.
I don’t want her sitting in a radiation appointment worrying about how she is going to pay the next medical bill. I don’t want her wondering how she can afford to take the time she needs away from work to recover from surgery.
My hope is that we can give Kim some peace of mind during an incredibly difficult season of her life—knowing that she has people behind her and that she doesn’t have to carry the financial burden alone.
