Chicago’s First Kitten Nursery
Don protégé
Why a kitten nursery?
We'd like to call ours Kitten Korner but here is what's happening! Every year kitten season rolls around and the inevitable happens, orphaned kittens get euthanized because of a lack of resources. We can change this with your help! They are not put to death because people don’t care, it’s because there are not enough resources to care for them. They require around the clock care and skilled people caring for them.
When I set out to open The Windy Kitty I did so because I wanted to help the neediest cats. We have, with our partners at FCACC rescued and adopted out so many cats from Chicago Animal Care and Control. Now, it's time to take this to a higher level and started saving an even more vulnerable population. Last month I went to the ASPCA Kitten Nursery in NYC to learn more and talk to those that run the place to see if we could do this. WE SO CAN! But we need your support!
Kitten Nursery in NYC
How can you help?
--Donate today and share! With your help we can become the first kitten nursery in Chicago that will cater to the intake and survival of Chicago's neediest orphan babies. We can help get those babies out of the shelter into the Windy Kitty nursery and save them from being put to death. Also, keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities!
What will we be doing?
--We will start out with mom's and babies, gruel babies and move into more advanced care as we grow and as our volunteer base grows. The more we can take in the more space there is in foster homes around Chicago to take newborns. It truly takes a village!
How do kitten nurseries work? Watch here!
--What will happen in the kitten nursery after kitten season?
We will take in kittens year round but have other plans for this space as well! We plan to use the space for FIV cats or other cats that can't be in general population so they can find homes too!
Your support means so much and we thank you!
