Kristin's Medical Fund

Kristin is the eldest daughter. She graduated from high school with honors in 2014 and hoped to attend college in the fall. However, her health declined rapidly that summer, and she was forced to put her dreams on hold. Doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist, test after test, month after month, our child just kept getting sicker. Although we never saw a tick, we suspected Lyme disease and requested Lyme testing. However, the tests were falsely negative, as they frequently are, so she was not treated. Frightened and frustrated, we began searching for lyme literate doctors outside of our region, and found one 500 miles to our North. Finally, last April, we got our answer.  Kristin not only tested positive to Lyme disease, by now into its chronic, late stage, she also has Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesia, Bartonella, several viruses, and systemic strep. After a full year of literally handfulls of pills, antibiotics, supplements, and nasty tinctures, the doctor agreed that, although her improvement on oral medication was significant, it was plateauing. He agreed that IV antibiotics would improve her recovery, but he recommended we find a lyme literate doctor closer to home. We found one 300 some miles away and have been getting steady improvement on IV antibiotics since July. They continue to test her as different signs appear, and she has recently added Q-fever to the list of insults, yet something even more rare and deadly than the last!

With all the traveling to and from doctors, receiving countless specialized medical treatments, special diets, supplements, and nutriceuticals, the medical expenses have been mounting at an alarming rate. As Dawn is having to care for and assist Kristin full-time, she is unable to go back to work for a while longer. The family's finances hadn't yet recovered from Dawn's year-long battle with breast cancer which took her out of the work force in 2014.

So instead of taking out yet another loan and essentially planning to spend retirement in debtor's prison, a friend of ours suggested we try a "GoFundMe" to help with Kristin's medical expenses. We remain hopeful that Kristin will continue to recover and begin to pursue her dreams. Any help you could give would be, quite literally, life saving. We would be extremely grateful and thankful for your help as we continue on this long journey.

Thank you for your kindness
