I'm Matthew Laine, and I'm raising money to start Laine Academy. Classes will begin in August, 2019.
About me: I'm 25 years old and have been an educational professional for the past 10 years. I attended college at age 11 and graduated at age 16 with degrees in Chemistry and Biology. I know how to navigate the educational system better than most people and intend to share this knowledge with parents and students who will devote themselves to my methods.
I, and all future students will be very grateful for any help you provide, and you will be memorialized as donors and Honorary Founders of Laine Academy.
At Laine Academy, we will have one teacher for every 6-8 students, and all students will not only achieve 100% mastery of the curriculum required by Ohio Administrative Code, but those who begin as 7-year-olds will be finished with all legally required primary and secondary school materials by the age of 13. Students will use the extra time to focus on:
- Character development, raw life experience, and obtaining a classical education.
- Understanding human nature as embodied in history, philosophy, theology, literature and law.
- Skill in the active literacies: writing and public speaking
- Insight into the major institutional forms: courts, corporations, military, education.
- Skills in the social graces, establishing relationships, alliances, and access to places that you might want to go.
- Almost exclusively engaging in either independent work, or work with their peers. Teachers will act more as coaches and consultants than as leadership, as students will learn to govern themselves.
- Participating in energetic physical sports designed to confer grace on the human presence, translating into power and money later on. Also, students will get practice in handling pain, and in dealing with emergencies.
- Receiving a complete theory of access to any place and any person.
- Quickly learning responsibility as an utterly essential part of the curriculum: students will take responsibility when it is offered and always deliver more than is asked for.
- Establishment of a personal code of standards in production, behavior and morality.
- Developing familiarity with, the fine arts: that is, cultural capital.
- Cultivating the power of accurate observation and recording. For example, drawing accurately, and properly conducting qualitative and quantitative measurements of every kind.
- Constant exposure to challenges of all sorts, cultivating the proper attitude to deal therewith.
- Exercising a habit of caution in reasoning to conclusions. Rather than being rash, they will take their time to think properly before concluding anything.
- Constantly developing and testing prior judgements: Students will practice making judgements, discriminating value, and following up and “keeping an eye” on predictions to see how far skewed, or how consistent, they were.
The $277,511 will be spent as follows:
$53,500 x2 = $107,000 - One year's salary plus expenses for two teachers (one who doubles as headmaster)
$59,028 - Payment for facilities for one year
$9,800 - Finishing and furnishing dormitories
$28,000 - Furnishing classrooms and purchasing materials for 14 students
$42,000 - Student transportation to enrichment activities
$15,600 - Insurance
$16,083 - GoFundMe fees
The rest will be funded by tuition.
