legal costs for transphobic attack

Surviving a transphobic attack in 2015 was one of the worst things which ever happened to me. It has left me with acute PTSD and unable to work. I became homeless for a time and lost my healthcare coverage, family and many best friends as a result. For defending myself with a single slap during the attack which split the lip of the main attacker, the bavarian state is now seeking a jail term for me. The men who attacked me have not been found, neither have the police bothered to look for them. The first attacker is wanted for an attack on a homeless man 1 hour before he attacked me. the other 3 guys fled in a taxi and paid cash, the police will not press the taxi firm to release the info as it has been deemed "not in the public interest." 
The lawyer who took my case (it will cost you "virtually nothing", he said...) now wants over €1000 himself.  This is for sitting on the case, misgendering me repeatedly and not securing the security camera footage which would prove my innocence. After I called them to help me, they threw me out.  The group which attacked me were 15-strong, it began with 15 minutes of jeering and transphobic abuse before it became physical. I was beaten for several minutes by four grown men who repeatedly called me a freak and a man.  The violent screams of "punch him in the face, the freak!!" still echo around my head every minute of every day, 15 months later.  The PTSD will not leave me alone.  Please help me, this has ruined my life and I cannot afford to pay. If I do not, the debt collectors will come for the lawyer's €1000+ and take away my belongings. If I do not pay the police fine of €2000, I am facing a 1 - 6 month jail term, possibly in a men's jail...
