Larkin St Apartment fire 12/2/2018
Donation protected
My friend of 14 years and his girl friend were displaced by this fire in his apartment building on 12/2/18. They are homeless now. At 79 years old, Jim was in a rent controlled apartment and living hand to mouth. He lived in this building for more than 30 years. The fire department @ this time think that some one was BBQing inside the building and it maybe the cause of the fire. In his younger days this man was a fine artist that did murals, book covers, portraits , Tarot cards, and many other things including a portrait of John Wayne. But technology put him out of work. Jim and his girl friend have lost everything because of smoke damage. They got out with the clothes that were on their backs. Additionally, The Red Cross did not offer them any help at all though the news media said that they were on the scene after the fire. A neighbor has given them shelter for the next few days after that he does not know where he is going to go. He needs financial help ASAP, for clothing, daily health care needs, food and housing. If someone can steer me in the right direction where he can get some help for his future needs I will pass the info on. I doubt that the landlord is going to rebuild his apartment soon because he has been trying to get Jim out so he can raise the rent on the apartment. Please give what you can even if it is a dollar.
Thank you,
Richard
