LaRae's School Fund
Greetings!
My name is LaRae Adams. I am a 20 year-old who anxiously anticipates returning for my junior year at Tuskegee University in August 2015. I am studying to earn an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the university's College of Business and Information Science. The reason for this appeal is to request consideration for funding assistance for my tuition apportionment, which has increased over last year. I am in need of help at this time because my mom has recently lost her job, and is unable to afford 2015/2016 out-of-pocket tuition payments due to begin this month.
COLLEGE
As a freshman, I was named to the Tuskegee University Dean's List & Honor Roll. During my freshman and sophomore college years, I was employed part-time on campus as an Administrative Assistant in the Office of the Registrar. I've learned that this paid work study program will be unavailable to me during this coming school year.
This Spring, I submitted several applications for a summer internship to develop real world work experience in my chosen field, and to augment costs of fees and books for the upcoming school year. No internship position was offered to me this summer.
I hold memberships and leadership positions on campus in Enactus United States, California Club Public Relations Committee, Tuskegee University Events Committee and Heavenly Heels, an organization that donates lightly worn high heel shoes to middle and high schools for graduation and proms.
My anticipated graduation date is May 2017. After graduation, and while studying for my Master's Degree, I plan to start my career in technology. My dream job would be writing code, designing and testing the newest technologies for Apple Computer. My ultimate goal is to own my own technology company. I'm still learning, thus have not yet decided in what high tech area my company will specialize. I am currently exploring aspects of entrepreneurship.
HIGH SCHOOL
From 2007 to 2013, I earned community service credits as an active volunteer for the Tracy African American Association (TAAA).
During years 2008 to 2012, I was a member of the Tracy Alumnae Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's 'Delta Academy' and 'Delta Gems' mentoring programs, during which we learned and practiced leadership skills, community service and sisterhood. In 2010, the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) awarded me membership in recognition of academic excellence, and presented me with a gold honor cord with tassels that I proudly displayed over my gown during my high school graduation ceremony.
During my senior year, I maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher. I was an honor roll student with perfect attendance throughout high school, and for several years prior. During my latter high school years, I served on the Year Book organizing committee, and was a member of the school's Black Student Union. I graduated June 1, 2013 from John C. Kimball High School in Tracy, CA.
Thank you for considering my request for tuition assistance. I pray that you'll understand my need, and consider me a good investment. I promise not to let you down!
Sincerely,
LaRae S. Adams
Tuskegee University student
