Laundry Access for Oakland Students

We are an alternative high school located in Oakland, CA.  Our students come to us from high schools throughout the city to have a smaller setting and more individualized support to be successful in college/career.  Our students come from all walks of life and come with hardships many of us will never go through.  They are resilient, have amazing personalities, are intelligent, and are caring young adults.  Some of our families, like many in the Bay Area, may need extra support with the basics of food, shelter, and clothing.  We have started a bi-weekly food drive for our students and their families with the hopes of extending it to the community in the near future.  We also provide health resources with the aid from our community partnerships. 

Recently, we acquired a washer/dryer combo from a generous community member that needs to be installed in our gym for students needing assistance with cleaning their clothes due to unstable housing, a lack of resources, or other personal reasons.  We have raised money to install the plumbing portion, but need to raise money for the electrical work.  This is $1000, with a huge discount given to us from a wonderful company in the Bay Area.  The extra $100 is for laundry detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets.  The last $1000+ is for toiletries, clothing, etc...  that our students need since much of this funding comes from staff and myself .
