Laura Cano Medical Fund

We're a group of friends and colleagues who are praying for a miracle. Our friend Laura Cano is fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for the second time. In order to recover she needs a bone marrow transplant.

We'll let her tell you her story:

Hello my name is Laura Cano, I am 28 years old and I live in the city of El Progreso in Honduras, C.A. with both of my parents.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I was living the life of any 25 year old woman, I had job and I was attending college in order to get my Teacher of English as a Foreign Language degree. However, all of those plans and all the future goals had to be put on hold. I was in shock to receive such terrible news. I honestly believed my life was over.

My parents as loving and strong as they are began looking for treatment and medical help. They never realized how hard of a process it would be to receive cancer treatment here in Honduras; as it  is very expensive. My family and I had to cut short in many other things as for example, my parents had to sell the house we had been living for more than 30 years in order to cover some of the medical bills, we had to appeal for bank loans and for monetary help from some relatives. Also, our church helped out by collecting money on the streets which helped pay for some day to day expenses. Since I could not work and my mother was taking care of me 24/7, my father was the main source of income at that time. Even though chemotherapy was doing its job by eradicating the leukemia, I had to stop treatment in 2015 because we could no longer afford to pay the 20,000 lempiras (860.50$) per chemo.

I was feeling better and that gave me hope to believe everything was going to be well. That same year God granted me the opportunity to work for HCE-Honduras/Myron Corp. in the E-commerce department. He blessed me with awesome coworkers. I also got back to school and I was determined to get my degree in 2017. However, in November 22nd, 2016 I received the news I was afraid to hear. The Cancer was recurrent, meaning the Leukemia was back. Now, I need a bone marrow transplant . Unfortunately, this procedure is not done in Honduras. Meaning I would have to go abroad to get the transplant done as well as looking for a donor, getting the proper medical examinations, and other expenses. We cannot afford any of these because we are still recovering economically from the first episode.

This will be a hard process but with the help of God primarily and with your help I will get through this. I remain hopeful, in peace and strong. I firmly believe God is in control of my life.

Jeremiah 29:11 says:

“for I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God bless you all abundantly!
